Knots: Medicine & Superstition

  • The Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret 9a Saint Thomas Street London, England, SE1 9RY United Kingdom (map)

This autumn, the Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret presents a striking new exhibition by BookScape Collective, featuring artworks woven through the museum’s historic spaces and collections.

Knots: Medicine & Superstition explores the influence of superstition on both historical and contemporary medical practices.

The exhibition examines themes such as protection from malevolent spirits, tempting fate, amulets, knotwork, and the written word, all in the context of sickness, health, and wellbeing. Visitors of all beliefs, from sceptics to the faithful, may discover they are more superstitious than they realise.

A private early-morning viewing will be available on Thursday 30th October, 9am–10am, offering an intimate opportunity to experience the exhibition before the working day begins.
